Preventing BullycideBullycide sounds like such a strange word found in the Urban Dictionary, not Merriam-Webster. It’s not homicide, the act of killing another person. Neither is it suicide, the act of killing self for personal reasons. Relatively new and becoming an increasingly popular buzzword, the term labels a type of suicide resulting from being a victim of relentless bullying. Run a quick Internet search, glance through a newspaper or magazine, or catch a soundbite on TV or radio, and you will find this buzzword almost everywhere.
Teenage Suicide – How I tried to kill myselfThe first time I entertained the idea of killing myself was at age 13. These are the events leading up to this moment. My family had moved to a nearby school district. Middle-school is rough for the new kid, let alone the teenage girl who doesn’t act or look like her peers. At my former school I had been picked on a lot, mostly because I reacted easily and my classmates seemed to get a kick out of teasing me. There were the bullies and then there were the haters, peers who inflicted physical and emotional scars. Once during gym class, one of my haters came up to me for no good reason and dug her nails into my forearm. More than 27 years later, I still wear those scars. Psychiatrists and therapists have asked me if those scars came from self-cutting. Traces of my self-harm aren’t as visible as the ones caused by haters.
Personal Beliefs about Homosexuality & the BibleWritten as an extensive article and not a brief blog post, the following statements explain the personal views of someone who has been on a twenty-year journey of reconciling life, faith, and sexuality. The Intro below flows as a list of personal declarations, historical examples, and reflections. This approach sets the stage for detailing personal beliefs. These beliefs grew from an intensely spiritual and intellectual endeavor to honor God.
A Life Worth LivingThe first rebel of the family was my great grandmother. While her father was a true atheist, Anna attended religious tent meetings with him in order to mock and ridicule Christians. During one meeting, at the age of 9, she became a “born again Christian.” Intolerant of the young girl’s new life, her father kicked his 9-year-old daughter out of the house and never permitted her to return. Anna’s Jesus meant more to her than family.
