Money or Equality?

Supposedly, citizens vote according to their wallets and purses (economy’s effect; sitting POTUS blamed).  Is it really fair to say one person deserves the blame for our economy?  (I am guilty of blaming G.W. Bush for the messes Pres. Obama had to fix.  Yet, the more I think about our country, the more I realize the President is not the sole scapegoat.) “We the people” must take initiative to dream and build a thriving economy. Our government can’t solve our economic problems alone (unless we’re a bunch of sheep following leaders with handouts).  Although we’ve been led to believe it’s government’s primary job to bolster the nation’s wealth, “we the people” aren’t powerless to improve our economy. Demand Equal Rights for All U.S. Citizens

UPDATED 5/9/12 4:00PM: President Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage. Original Post: If the Federal Government does not protect us, then depending on the State we are in, we are not safe.  A divided country means an unsafe country for a minority not protected by the Federal Government. Think about it… vacation plans, job opportunities in other states, crossing state borders for whatever reason places LGBT individuals and couples in jeopardy if individual States have not enacted laws for our equal rights. This alone makes our country unsafe for the LGBT community. Want LGBT equal rights? Contact our Government Officials as often as possible until our message is heard and equal rights are granted: Contact our U.S. President Contact your State Senators Contact your . . . The Human Rights Church

If you’re a part of the LGBTQ and Allied community, then please check out Metropolitan Community Churches.  All are welcome regardless of sexual orientation, gender identification, relationship status, and spiritual / religious status. Some may consider MCC as the “gay church;” however, we are so much more than this.  As a Human Rights Church, our leaders and members are not limited to fighting for LGBTQ equality.  Whether locally, regionally, or across the borders of our countries, we fight for social justice with the belief that every person deserves equal treatment.  Here’s our Human Rights Protocol. For those in the Chicagoland area, check out achurch4me? MCC.  Please consider following achurch4me? on Facebook and Twitter, too.  (If you live outside the Chicago area, please consider sharing this . . . Continue reading

Dear (heterosexual) married couples,

I support your right to get married, pay less taxes than my partner and I do, and to receive benefits only available to heterosexual married couples.  As a lesbian, I don’t want your wife.  I don’t want to destroy your marriage.  In fact, I celebrate with you the joy and wonder of becoming one. When I see you in public, I don’t feel disgusted when you hold hands or show affection.  In most cases, I think it’s sweet. When I see you with your children, I am happy for you.  Families are beautiful.  It saddens me when families fall apart due to divorce or dysfunction.  I wish for all of you a strong, happy, and healthy family life. As a person advocating equal rights for . . . Continue reading
